They star
together in the upcoming film Free Guy.
But Ryan
Reynolds and Taika Waititi are hoping movie-goers won't remember they worked
together once before - on the critically-panned box office flop Green Lantern.
'I’ve never
met him,' Reynolds responded when asked by Total Film Magazine about reuniting
on screen with the New Zealander.
The
Canadian star, who serves as a produce on Free Guy, went on: 'I still can’t
quite figure out how we got him for this. He just sort of said ‘yes’ right away.'
Waititi was
also all in on rewriting history during the interview published in part Sunday
by gamesradar.com.
'What’s the
project you’re talking about? I’ve never heard of it... Green... what?' he
deadpanned.
Free Guy,
directed by Shawn Levy, is a comedy adventure about a bank teller who discovers
that he's actually an NPC (Non-Player Character) inside a brutal, open world
video game.
The film
due for release in December also stars Killing Eve's Jodie Comer and Joe Keery
from Stranger Things.
Reynolds, 43,
also joked about Green Lantern in a Commencement speech he recorded for the
Class of 2020 at his alma mater, Kitsilano Secondary School in Vancouver, B.C.
